 Weinman

The Harry C. Sigman Graduate Fellow

Avery Weinman is a Ph.D. student in the UCLA Department of History. Generally, she studies the history of Jews in the modern Middle East and North Africa. More specifically, she researches youth radicals in the Zionist paramilitary organizations the Irgun and Lehi in British Mandatory Palestine. Her project is a social history that seeks to address how the rank-and-file members of these organizations conceptualized themselves; related to their friends, families, and larger social spheres; and engaged with the major discourses and structures of Palestine under the mandate. From 2019 to 2022, she served as the Harry C. Sigman Graduate Fellow for the UCLA Nazarian Center for Israel Studies, where she remains an affiliate.
