Foreign Language Requirement for European Studies Major
The European Studies Majors are required to complete the intermediate level of a foreign language in a European language by graduation. In most cases, the intermediate level of a foreign language is equivalent to the completion of the sixth quarter at UCLA (ex. completion of French 6). Some languages do not offer six quarters of a language, in which case please consult the major worksheet or contact the European Studies Advising Office (ex. Dutch 103).
Note: Students minoring in European Studies do not have to complete a language requirement.
Acceptable Languages:
The European Studies Major accepts: Czech, Dutch, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Scandinavian, Serbian/Croatian, Spanish, Ukrainian, and Yiddish. For other language requests, please contact the European Studies Advising Office.

You may be exempted from the Foreign Language requirement for the following reasons:
