About the Minor
International migration is a global phenomenon, shaping connections across sending, transit, and receiving countries and raising questions that cross disciplinary boundaries. To understand migration, we must draw on insights from sociology, political science, economics, demography, history, anthropology, and beyond.
While traditional models explain why people migrate and how migration impacts wages and employment, migration is ultimately about people—their lived experiences, identities, and the challenges of belonging and acceptance. Exploring these dimensions requires attention to both individual stories and the broader historical, political, economic, and social contexts in which migration occurs.
The International Migration Studies Minor offers students the opportunity to examine these complex issues through multiple lenses. By engaging with diverse disciplines and methodologies, the program equips students to grapple with the dilemmas and dynamics of migration as a vast social and intellectual phenomenon.
