The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has announced that Associate Professor Nouri Gana has won a 2017 New Directions Fellowship. Gana, who teaches in the departments of Near Eastern Languages & Cultures and of Comparative Literature, specializes in modern and contemporary literature and cultures of North Africa and the Middle East, Arab popular music and film.
The New Directions Fellowship assists faculty members in the humanities and humanistic social sciences who seek to acquire systematic training outside their usual research areas. The program enables scholars to work on new topics at an advanced level of sophistication.
