UCLA Southeast Asian Studies invites you to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam to study Globalized Vietnam

Vietnam has one of the fastest growth rates in the world since its integration into the global economy. This shift drastically changes society, culture, and governance.  The Globalized Vietnam program looks at both general theoretical discussions of globalization and the specifics of Vietnam.  Based in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), students will have the chance to enhance their classroom lessons through excursions to local sites of interest, including a visit to the Mekong agricultural region and an exemplary border town, where they will witness globalization at work. Another layer of this in-depth look at Vietnam is an examination of Vietnamese film and literature.  Students will view films, read poetry and fiction, and study relevant theories to explore how these cultural productions are connected to larger ideological structures and social practices of the state and nation.  Both courses will be offered through the department of Asian Languages and Cultures, and will be open to all interested students.

Directed by Thu-Huong Nguyen-Vo, Asian Languages and Cultures, UCLA.
