About the Speakers
G. Reza Ghorashi is a Professor of Economics at Stockton University of New Jersey. His current area of economic research is the role of the nation state in a globalized economy. Examination of the relations between state and economy in the Middle East, with a particular emphasis on Iran, has been his long lasting area of interest. He has taught and published on this subject at Stockton and Rutgers University. Dr. Ghorashi's extensive publications in English and Persian have appeared in journals such as the Global Journal of Economics and Finance, American International Counterpunch, and Handbook of Emerging Economies.
Amir AghaKouchak is a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth System Science at the University of California, Irvine. His research focuses on natural hazards and climate extremes and crosses the boundaries between hydrology, climatology, and remote sensing, as well as the interactions between different types of climatic and non-climatic hazards. He has won several honors and awards including the American Geophysical Union’s James B. Macelwane Medal, Fellow of AGU, and the American Society of Civil Engineers (Huber Research Prize. Amir is currently serving as the Editor in Chief of Earth’s Future.
Roja Fazaeli is an Associate Professor of Islamic Civilizations at the Department of Near and Middle Eastern Studies, Trinity College Dublin. Roja has published widely about Islamic feminisms, female religious authorities, women’s rights in Iran, and the relationship between human rights and religion. She is currently the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Immigrant Council of Ireland, member of the Board of Directors of Azadi Andisheh (The Association for Freedom of Thought) and on the editorial board of the journal Religion and Human Rights. Dr. Fazaeli’s first book, Islamic Feminisms Rights and Interpretations Across Generations in Iran, was published by Routledge in 2016.
