How to create a course list

Please upgrade to a browser that supports HTML5 video or install Flash

There are two ways to create a course list in Webtools: (1) You can either click Add under the Courses Editor title, or (2) you can click the Courses Editor link in the Misc. Editors box and click New Course List.

On the Add Course List page, you will see one section: Course List Properties. All five fields here are mandatory and marked with asterisks. You should first enter the Course List Title and select your Unit/Center/Program. You should then specify the Quarter and the Academic Year of the course list. Finally, you should provide a Description that may be displayed on the course list page on your center's website (depending on the design).

These instructions are all you need to create a simple course list. Finally, after you are done, you should always remember to click Save, OK on the confirmation prompt, then Exit.

The Center for Southeast Asian Studies website serves as a good example of how course lists can be displayed on a center/program website. Links for each course in the course list that take the user to the UCLA Registrar's Schedule of Classes will automatically be generated along with various other information pulled directly from the Registrar.

How to manage course(s) in a course list

Please upgrade to a browser that supports HTML5 video or install Flash

In order to make changes to the courses in a course list, go to the Courses Editor, and locate the course list you want to edit by filtering or searching, then click the Manage Courses link in the Action column.

To add a course to the course list, scroll down to Search for Courses to Add section. By using the filtering options of Department, Quarter, Year and Title keyword, you can narrow down your search. Click Add to List as you determine the courses you want to add to the course list.

As you add new courses to the list, they are populated in the top courses table. You can remove any course you like off the list by clicking Remove from List. You can also drag and drop the courses to reorder the list. Because the information from the Registrar's Office does not always include the finalized course information, on the courses table, you can edit all course fields. This also allows you to add additional information that is not automatically populated by the Registrar, such as days and times, and location. When you are done editing, do not forget to click Save right below the table.
